LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy

Individual Online Therapy for Adults in Massachusetts, Maine, and Washington

Modality Note: This care is provided entirely via secure video sessions for individual adults. It is designed for those seeking deep, identity-aware personal therapy rather than couples, family, or crisis intervention.

You do not have to be simpler or easier to explain to receive care here.

Too often, the world asks LGBTQIA+ people to present their identities in tidy, digestible packages. You may have learned that to be accepted, safe, or employable, you had to edit yourself down—smoothing over the complex, shifting, or untidy parts of your truth just to keep the peace or protect your relationships.

In this space, your identity is not a clinical problem to be solved, a political debate, or a single box to be checked. It is an intrinsic part of your whole person.

We look closely at the survival strategies you’ve used to navigate heteronormative or cisnormative structures. We honor those strategies for how they kept you safe, while gently exploring whether they are now keeping you isolated or small.

What We Work Through Together

Our individual sessions focus on the lived reality of being a queer or trans adult in a complicated world. This includes:

  • Unwinding the Habit of Shrinking: Learning to live less edited down in your career, relationships, and creative life.

  • Building Deep Self-Trust: Navigating identity exploration, coming out later in life, or shifts in gender expression without needing permission from external systems.

  • Processing Religious or Family Conditioning: Healing from the exhausting pressure to perform strength or translate your experience to people who demand that you remain small.

  • Navigating Life Transitions: Moving through career shifts, relationship evolutions, and medical or social alignment with a steady, compassionate clinical partner.

WPATH-Informed Care & Support Letters

Navigating healthcare systems as a transgender, non-binary, or gender-expansive adult requires clinical partnerships that respect your autonomy. Philip A. Bower, LICSW, provides care aligned with the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) guidelines.

Our Policy on Letters: For clients engaged in ongoing individual therapy, writing letters of support for gender-affirming medical care is a standard, integrated part of our work together. We operate from an informed-consent model and do not believe in unnecessary gatekeeping.

Please note: Because our practice focus is on long-term outpatient therapy, we do not provide standalone, single-session evaluations or third-party forensic reports for individuals who are not active, ongoing clients of the practice.

The Practical Framework: Scope, Fees & Access

We believe that professional therapy requires absolute transparency around logistics, fees, and boundaries. Clear, predictable structures build clinical self-trust and clarity, allowing us to focus entirely on your growth. Because Authentic Arch Counseling operates across multiple states and partner networks, your care parameters and billing options depend on how you access our practice.

1. Clinical Scope & Telehealth Parameters

  • Telehealth Focus: All sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You must be physically located in Massachusetts, Maine, or Washington at the exact time of your session.

  • Practice Scope: This is an outpatient practice for individual adults only. We do not provide child/adolescent therapy, couples counseling, family mediation, or emergency/crisis services.

2. Direct Private Pay Rates

  • Initial Intake Assessment: $250

  • Standard Individual Session: $200 (53-minute duration)

3. Insurance & Funding Pathways

We do not accept or bill health insurance networks directly under the Authentic Arch practice name. However, you can access our care through alternative funding pathways depending on your state location and programmatic eligibility:

  • Out-of-Network Insurance (Superbills): If you choose direct private pay but carry out-of-network mental health benefits, we can provide you with a monthly clinical statement (a "Superbill"). You can submit this document directly to your insurance company to request partial reimbursement based on your plan’s policies.

  • In-Network Insurance via Partner Platforms: You can utilize your standard in-network insurance benefits strictly when booking and billing through our approved outside platform partners, such as Tava Health.

  • Specialized Partner Pathways: We proudly coordinate with organizations like Atreyu Therapy Cottage, Pineapple Support, and Tau Mental Health (Coming Fall 2026) to provide alternative funding, sliding scales, or subsidized access pathways for eligible individuals.

Coverage & Access Verification: Eligibility, documentation requirements, and actual out-of-pocket session fees vary significantly by platform, state, and your specific insurance policy. We cannot guarantee network coverage or immediate platform availability. It is always your responsibility to verify your out-of-network or platform benefits with your insurance carrier prior to requesting care.

Make Room for Your Whole Story

You don't need to have your identity completely sorted out or wrapped in a perfect label before you step into therapy. The unedited version of your life is welcome here

Reminder: Submitting an inquiry through Cal.com acts as a request for scheduling only. A clinical relationship is formalised only after a mutual determination of fit, documentation of location within our licensed states (MA, ME, WA), and completion of our intake portal.
