Therapy for Trauma, Shame & Emotional Conditioning

Grounded, Virtual Individual Care for Adults in Massachusetts, Maine, and Washington

Practice Focus & Boundaries: Authentic Arch Counseling provides scheduled, virtual outpatient individual therapy. We do not provide 24/7 crisis response, immediate safety containment, or intensive psychiatric management. If you are facing an acute safety crisis, please call 911 or call/text 988. Sessions require that you be physically located within MA, ME, or WA.

You do not have to apologize for the strategies that kept you alive.

When you grow up or live inside high-stakes, rigid, or unyielding environments—whether that was a chaotic family system, an intense military culture, a demanding religious community, or a society that marginalized your identity—you learned how to adapt.

You didn't choose your responses; your nervous system chose them for you. You learned to anticipate danger, suppress your needs, perform absolute steadiness, or edit out the parts of yourself that were too complicated or inconvenient for others to hold.

These patterns are not personal failures, and they are not diagnoses to be ashamed of. They are highly intelligent, deeply protective survival strategies. They are the armor you built to keep yourself safe, connected, or employable when room for your actual truth was scarce.

The trouble is, armor is heavy. What kept you safe in the past may now be the very thing keeping you isolated, chronically exhausted, or disconnected from your own desires.

Therapy here is a paced, collaborative process led by Philip A. Bower, LICSW. We do not rush into overwhelming memories or push you to tear down your defenses. Instead, we work together to understand your internal operating system, honor the protective layers that served you, and gently help you retire the conditioning that no longer fits the adult life you are trying to build.

Shifting From Sheer Survival into Choice

In our one-on-one telehealth sessions, we safely explore the impact of deep conditioning and trauma, focusing on:

  • Unwinding Internalized Shame: Softening that harsh, critical inner voice that tells you that you are fundamentally wrong, broken, or too much to handle.

  • Honoring the Body’s Wisdom: Working with your autonomic nervous system to understand freeze, fight, flight, or over-functioning states without judging them.

  • De-Conditioning Rigid Scripts: Breaking free from the unwritten rules of family, military, or religious structures that demand you perform strength at the cost of your human limits.

  • Reclaiming True Self-Trust: Learning to listen to your actual desires, set clear personal boundaries, and make authentic relational choices without needing outside permission.

Practice Fees & Professional Parameters

To ensure our therapeutic alliance remains entirely clear and protected, we maintain transparent operational boundaries:

  • Session Information: Individual private-pay intake sessions are $250. Regular individual sessions are $200 (53 minutes). Platform partnerships vary in availability and billing rules across our licensed states.

  • Forensic and Third-Party Evaluation Policy: Our practice is strictly dedicated to long-term clinical care and individual therapy. We do not perform forensic assessments, personal injury documentation, legal evaluations for court cases, or third-party reports regarding historical trauma or abuse claims.
